Link Building – Definition

Most simply put, link building is the process of getting other domains link to your website. Why link building is an integral part of SEO? Link building is essential because it is a significant component on how search engines rate and rank your website. For example, we own a web site that sells computers. Of course, we’re competing with well-established brands that also retail computers. Some of these well-known brands are: ASUS, Acer, Toshiba, Sony, etc. One standing aspect that search engines will look in determining how to position our website for a specific query (e.g. “computers”) is our backlinks. While the above example provides a common visual understanding of how backlinks are used, it omits key aspects such as:

  • Trust & authority of the linking internet sites
  • On-page optimization
  • Key terms of the inbound links

How to make cheap, or even free, reliable & trustworthy backlinks? There are variety of link building techniques & strategies used to get exterior internet sites to link to yours. Some of them are:

  • Content Creation & Marketing – Creating compelling articles that individuals will want to reference and link to.
  • Submissions – Sending your news to press announcements. Submitting your website to directories.
  • Reviews – Put your products or services in front of powerful web owners.
  • Links from friends & partners – Get individuals you know and individuals you work with to link to your site.

There are several other options that will offer you more extensive and granular lists of ways to get backlinks, but there are also main issues with all of these guidelines.

  • They take some time – creating high-quality articles and developing backlinks from parties who may be interested takes a while. It also requires certain resources like: excellent copy writers, dedicated social manager, etc.
  • They are out of your control – You are relying on internet websites that you do not manage. This means you’re unable to control the words they use to discuss your products or services, nor the genre of these sites linking to you.

Now, how can you build quality and trustworthy backlinks? There are few aspects to consider:

  • Actual anchor text – Are you familiar with anchor texts? Anchor text is the visible text of a link (hyperlink). Take a look at the link below:

SEO Philippines

The HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) code for that link would be: <a href=”http://www.bloganize.com/seo-in-the-philippines/”>SEO Philippines</a>

The red text “SEO Philippines” is the anchor text. Notice that our anchor text is keyword-based, yes, search engines look into     these anchor texts to conclude the genre of our site. For example, we have links from different domains with the following anchor texts: SEO company in the Philippines, SEO specialist Philippines, cheap SEO Philippines & affordable seo outsourcing Philippines. Google MIGHT realize that our website talks about SEO.

  • Content around your anchor text
  • Quality of the linking page
  • Keyword Variation

I have been reading a lot about link building recently, and I am curious about what you are trying to say. Your article is entitled “How to Build Excellent Back Links For Free.” The how seems to be the easy part. There are plenty of ways to develop free back links. The hard part seems to be how to stream line the process. The hard part seems to be the fact that link building is time consuming. So my question is – are there any programs someone could recommend, or strategies which can speed this process up?

  2. One important rule in link building is that, we have to build links naturally or if ever we automate it, it must look natural. Yes, there are tools we could use but they’re developed only for moderate use. I would also suggest guest posting as a link building strategy. Been doing it for quite sometime and I see my keywords improving. :) Well crafted article too!

I am very interested in guest posting. I just don’t understand how it works 100%. I am willing to spend the time to develop a strong link profile for my site. I think that consistent work, everyday, for a few months is necessary in order to seriously compete in competitive markets like personal injury law.

In the last week I set up an account with the following sites:

    1. Hubpages.com
    2. Blogger.com
    3. WordPress.com
    4. Blog.com
    5. Squidoo.com
    6. Gather.com
    7. Typepad.com
    8. Bloganize.com
    9. Webnode.com
    10. Livejournal.com
    11. Multiply.com
    12. Weebly.com

So I set up a My PA Lawyer account with each of these and wrote articles linking to my target site.

Do you think that is a good idea? I am afraid I am spending the right amount of time on the wrong tasks.

I read that Google crawls the above list regularly.

    • What you are doing is good. But, I think it would just do you a little favor on revving up your link profile. Let us assume that you have a thousand of articles on every blogging website, at the end of the latter, there will only be 12 linking domains. Simply put, strive to get as many links you can from relevant domains.

Guest posting: You can give me an article then I would be very glad to post it here on my website. Are you interested?

      • Seth Carson says:

I would definitely be interested. I appreciate your taking the time to help with your advice. I started designing websites about 7 – 8 months ago, and now that I figured out how to write html and css I want to get traffic on the sites I have been working on. I am ok with it taking months – or even years to get established. I’m ok with having to put a lot of hours in. What I hate is putting a lot of hours in an not knowing if I am doing the right thing.

Quick question: What do you think about starting a pay per click campaign with Google. My goal is not to get the business from the pay per click, but to use the pay per click ads and traffic to help my organic ranking. DO you think Google will rank someone higher if they know they are spending $1500 per month?

I know you can’t buy your way up the organic ranking, but maybe it helps?

I will definitely submit an article. Is there a particular subject you want me to focus on?
